Starting Year 7
At Molong Central School, we understand that starting high school is an exciting milestone for students and families. Moving from Year 6 to Year 7 can feel like a big change. We help every child feel confident and supported during the transition to high school.
Find out more in the Getting ready for high school guide.
Our transition program offers Year 6 students a variety of activities designed to prepare them for Year 7, including engaging events where you can meet your teachers, connect with fellow students, and discover what life in high school will be like.
As you prepare to begin your high school journey next year, we invite you to participate in these events to help you feel confident and comfortable in your new school environment.
Our transition program offers Year 6 students a variety of activities to prepare them for Year 7, including:
- Subject Enrichment Days: Opportunities for Years 5 and 6 students to explore key learning areas in a high school setting.
- Transition Day: A special day focused exclusively on Year 6 students to experience high school life.
- Orientation Day: For enrolled students and their families to learn about daily schedules, uniforms, lunch options, and communication practices.
High school enrolment process
-
Read the instructions about the Expression of Interest process. This is provided to parents and carers in Term 1 of Year 6.
-
[Submit an Expression of Interest] online indicating your high school preferences for Year 7.
- High schools review Expressions of Interest in order of preference. All eligible students are entitled to enrol at their local high school.
- If a school can accommodate your preference, they will make an offer to enrol your child and provide you with an enrolment application to complete.
- Parents and carers can visit online enrolment to see the status of your Expression of Interest.
-
Submit an enrolment application to the high school that has made the offer, within the specified time frame. During the online application, you can upload all documents to support your application.
-
High school placements are confirmed (during Term 3).
-
Attend orientation activities at the high school you have enrolled in (during Term 4).
What to expect in high school

Before your child starts Year 7
Enrolment interview
Before your child begins, families may be asked to meet with our principal. This is a time to share:
- medical conditions or allergies
- family circumstances that may affect your child’s start
- any learning or wellbeing needs.
We will also explain the supports our school provides, such as:
- support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through personalised learning pathways
- extra support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- support for students with disability or other learning needs through inclusive education programs.

- orientation days and school tours
- parent information sessions and meet the teacher events
- subject tasters and classroom visits
- peer support activities with older students.
Students, parents and carers can join these sessions to learn about daily schedules, uniforms, lunches and communication. If you need an interpreter, let us know.
